Once you get your IRB approval, you may start your research.
Approval comes in the form of an email from your area reviewer – the IRB chair is cc’d, as is the faculty supervisor (if there is one).
Some grant applications and outside institutions require a formal IRB letter. We have Kalamazoo College IRB letterhead, and can provide a formal letter. Please give us one week to process this. Further, let us know if you need a hard copy with a signature or a pdf, etc…
Faculty members’ IRB approval is good for three years. Students’ IRB approval is good for one year. If your research needs to continue beyond this time, you must submit a request for IRB renewal at least one month before your approval runs out. You do not need to take the ethics exam again.
